Product Description
Designed for use with the PROACTIV FACP System, the PRECISION Isolator eliminates the potential for the loss of system reporting should an SLC wire to wire short circuit fault occur. Isolators fit into a unique base that will not accept PRECISION detection devices.
A short circuit can potentially disable SLC power and communications rendering the loop inoperable. The short circuit isolator module can be used to protect the SLC from this vulnerability. In true NFPA Style 7 configuration the isolators are installed adjacent to each device on the SLC providing protection to each segment of the SLC.
Operation
The PRECISION SLC supports the use of Short Circuit Isolator devices to guard against wire to wire short circuit conditions. Upon detecting a short circuit condition on the SLC the two isolators surrounding the short automatically “disconnect” the shorted portion of the SLC allowing the PROACTIV FACP to continue to be able to interact with those devices outside the isolated section. The indication LED is lit when the Isolator is activated. When the short circuit is removed the isolators automatically restore power and communication to the section.
The Isolator can be configured for Style 4 (Class B) or Style 7 (Class A) operation. In a Style 7 SLC installation the devices upstream and downstream of the activated isolators remain operational. In a Style 4 SLC installation Short Circuit Isolators are typically used to protect main riser conductors from short circuit conditions on T-Taps which would render the whole SLC inoperable in the event of a short circuit condition.
In style 4 configurations a maximum of 20 detectors/addressable devices may be connected between two short circuit isolating devices.
